It´s common knowledge that some colours have a particular meaning especially if associated to a flower: for example, everyone knows that red roses symbolize love and passion or that white flowers are a symbol of purity. But the other flowers colours are given a meaning.
Human mind naturally matches to each color an emotion or a feeling. Some people associate to each alphabetic letter a particular colour and there are even those who perceive the letter with that particular colour. This is an extreme case of how the human mind creates connections between colors and events, concepts, emotions which are achromatic themselves.
This natural ability is called synesthesia. To this tradition has been added, creating a precise symbolism of flower colors. The correspondence between colors and meanings, however, is not univocal, because each color can have multiple meanings. For example, red is the color of passionate love but also the color of Christmas.
