The genus Ficus belongs to the family Moraceae and was already known in the the ancient Romans time, indeed its name has its  roots in that period.

Its main quality is represented by aerial roots that come out from the branches and sink into the ground forming "picturesque pillars" to support the large leaf.

The Ficus Formosanum is much appreciated too because it produces a fruit: a small fig.
